The verse says

The one everything living comes out of, by whom all this is spread through: a person reaches fulfilment by honouring him through his own work.

In plain words

And here is how. The mechanism is given in one word.

Abhyarcya - by honouring, by offering. The work becomes the offering.

Not work plus worship. Not work and then worship. The work itself, done as an offering to what everything came out of.

Where you've felt this · in family life

Your aunt cooks for the family every Sunday and has done for decades. She is not sentimental about it and would laugh if you called it devotion. But she notices who is not eating, and she has never once made the dish that only she likes. Something is being directed outward in that kitchen every week.

Going deeper

Work becoming the offering, rather than being interrupted by one, is the whole move in this verse.

The older picture kept the two apart. There was the sacrifice, performed at a particular place with particular materials, and then there was the rest of your life. This collapses the distance. What you were going to do anyway becomes the material of the offering.

It is also what makes the four groups less important than they look. If any work at all can be offered, then the content of the work has stopped being what decides your spiritual prospects. A trader and a teacher have the same access.

For a reader the practical part is the direction. The work does not change, the hours do not change, and nothing has to be added to the day. What changes is who it is being done towards, which is the one variable this book keeps returning to.
