Word by word
The verse says
King, remembering again and again this astonishing and holy conversation between Krishna and Arjuna, I am glad over and over.
In plain words
And now the last movement, which is simply a man remembering.
Saṁsmṛtya saṁsmṛtya - remembering, remembering. The word is doubled in the Sanskrit, which is how repetition is marked.
He is not teaching. He is telling a king that he keeps thinking about it and that it keeps making him glad.
Where you've felt this · in growing older
Your uncle brings up the same afternoon from forty years ago perhaps twice a year. Everyone knows the story. He tells it slightly differently each time and he is visibly pleased for the rest of the evening. Nobody has ever minded.
Going deeper
Ending on the experience of a listener rather than on a doctrine is a deliberate choice, and it is the best evidence of what this book thinks it is.
The last voice is not Krishna's and not Arjuna's. It belongs to a man who overheard, and what he reports is not a conclusion but a recurring gladness. The doubling of the word for remembering makes it a habit rather than an event.
There is a claim buried in this about what such a conversation is for. It is not consumed once and understood. It is returned to, and the return is itself the point, which is why Sanjaya describes an ongoing state rather than a result.
For anyone finishing this book, that is the most realistic expectation available. You will not have it. You will come back to parts of it at odd moments for years, and the coming back is not a sign that you failed to get it the first time.
