The verse says

Wherever Krishna is, the master of yoga, and wherever Arjuna is with his bow, there is fortune, victory, prosperity and firm right conduct. That is what I think.

In plain words

The last verse of the Gita, and it names two people.

Krishna, the master of yoga. And Arjuna, holding his bow.

Not Krishna alone. The book does not end with God; it ends with God and a man who has picked his weapon back up, and it says both are needed.

Where you've felt this · in sport

A coach and a player both get credited when a team wins and the credit is usually argued about. Anybody who has been in either role knows the argument is empty. Neither of them produces anything alone, and both of them know exactly how little they could do without the other.

Going deeper

Ending on two figures rather than one is the last decision this book makes, and it is the summary of everything in it.

Krishna is named by what he is master of. Arjuna is named by what he is holding. The divine and the human, the teaching and the instrument, and the verse will not separate them. Where both are present, it says, things go well.

That refuses two tidy endings. It is not the story of a man who learned to surrender and put his weapons down, and it is not the story of a man who found his own strength and did not need help. The bow is still in his hand and the god is still beside him.

And it brings the book back to where it started. In Chapter 1 Arjuna let that bow fall from his hand, unable to hold it. The last line of the last verse has him holding it again, with everything that has been said in between standing behind the difference.
