The verse says

With the body, with the mind, with the understanding, and even with the bare senses, those in practice act, giving up attachment, for their own clearing.

In plain words

Four instruments, listed plainly: body, mind, understanding, senses.

All of them still working. Nothing has been shut down.

What has changed is the purpose. The work is being done for the worker.

Where you've felt this · at work

A joiner cleans and puts away every tool at the end of the day, and has for thirty years. Nobody inspects his workshop and no customer will ever see it. He is not doing it for anyone. The habit is doing something to him rather than to the bench.

Going deeper

Ātma-śuddhaye — for the clearing of the self. It is the first time the chapter names what all this activity is actually for.

That is a smaller claim than it sounds, and a more useful one. The work is not being done to accomplish something in the world, and it is not being done for a reward afterwards. It is being done because doing it a particular way changes the person doing it.

Which reframes a great deal of ordinary life. Most of what anyone does is not going to matter in ten years. On this account that was never the point of it.

Notice also the word even: even with the bare senses. Nothing is exempt and nothing is too small. Sweeping counts.

For a reader whose days are mostly small tasks, that is the more encouraging half of the verse, and it is the half that usually gets skipped.
