The verse says

Whoever can bear, here and now, before letting go of the body, the force that rises from wanting and anger — he is joined, and he is a happy man.

In plain words

The most practical verse in the chapter.

Vega — a surge, a rush, the word for a current or a flood.

You are not asked to stop it. You are asked to stay standing while it goes past.

Where you've felt this · in failure

You feel the reply forming and you do not send it for an hour. The hour does not make you a better person. It makes the difference between a bad evening and a bad year.

Going deeper

Vega is the word to sit with, because it describes something with its own momentum.

It is used for the rush of a river, the speed of an arrow, the force of a current. Not a decision. Not a temptation you are weighing. A thing already moving when you notice it.

So the instruction is precisely fitted to what is actually available. You are not told to prevent the surge, which is not on offer, or to stop wanting things, which Chapter 2 already admitted does not work. You are told to bear it — soḍhum, to withstand, to hold out.

And the window is named: before you let go of the body. Meaning now, and meaning while it is hard, rather than in some later condition where it will have become easy.

What makes it usable is how small it is. The whole teaching fits inside the gap between feeling something and acting on it, and that gap can be widened by seconds at a time.
