श्लोक कहता है
The practitioner is greater than those who do austerities, and greater, it is held, than those who have knowledge, and greater than those who do works. So be a practitioner, Arjuna.
सरल शब्दों में
A ranking, and then an instruction.
Above the ascetics. Above the learned. Above those who perform the rites.
And then four words: tasmād yogī bhava arjuna — so be a practitioner.
आपने इसे कहाँ महसूस किया है
Reading about marriage, and thinking hard about marriage, and being married. The third one contains the other two, and neither of them can stand in for it.
और गहराई में
The ranking puts three respectable lives below one, and it is worth asking what the fourth has that they lack.
The ascetic has discipline. The knower has understanding. The ritualist has practice in the ordinary sense. None of those is dismissed anywhere in this book.
What the yogī has is all three joined — which is what the word has meant since 2.48, where yoga was defined as evenness in the person acting, not as a technique or a body of knowledge.
So this is not a claim that meditation beats study. It is a claim that a life in which understanding, discipline and action are the same activity is not the same as having all three separately.
And the instruction at the end is the shortest sentence in the chapter. After forty-five verses of nuance, four words with no conditions attached.
