श्लोक कहता है
He does not leap up when something pleasant comes, and does not recoil when something unpleasant does. Steady in understanding, unconfused, knowing the infinite, he stands in it.
सरल शब्दों में
Two verbs, and both are physical.
Prahṛṣyet is the lift you feel before you decide anything. Udvijet is the flinch.
What is being described is what happens before thought gets there.

The captain's face is the same after the winning goal and after the one that went in off her own shin. The team reads that face constantly, without meaning to. It is probably the most useful thing she does all match.
और गहराई में
The lift and the flinch both happen before you have had time to form a view, and that changes what is being asked.
Neither one is an opinion you could argue with. So this verse is not describing someone who has decided to be calm — deciding to be calm is a later and much weaker thing.
Which means the state cannot be produced by effort in the moment. By the time you are trying, the movement has already happened.
That is why the chapter has spent nineteen verses on what a person is standing in rather than on what they should do. The steadiness here is a by-product. It is what a particular footing looks like from outside.
And the verse does not ask you to feel nothing. The good thing is still good. What has gone is the lurch toward it, which is a different matter from the pleasure.
